The Kingdom of Slang is a surprising alliance of criminals that brings together beggars, thugs, and other thieves from the Cæris Underworld.
They hide in the many narrow alleys and sewers to avoid prying eyes. The place is so labyrinthine that few dare to venture there.
Everyone speaks the green tongue. In this slang, there are no words to express virtue or dignity, but there are plenty of expressions to describe theft and vice. More superstitious than devout, the members of the Kingdom of Slang embrace entropy, chance, and the rewards of a well-filled purse. But above all, they know how to exploit the fashions and customs of different social classes to better infiltrate them.
This association is led by the Great Coësre, King of Thunes. To rule this underworld kingdom, the Great Coësre must be a legend, an immortal idea that must be passed down through the generations. He therefore has no identity, existing solely as a symbol.
This king commands all the gangsters. His lieutenants, the cagous, handle recruitment and teach techniques to beginners. Each cagou has a specialty. Below them, the archi-supports are the scholars, most of whom are former students; they teach slang to newcomers, for example. They enjoy the privilege of paying no taxes to the Great Coësre. In return, they inform him of anything that might be worth possessing. Each profession is thus used for specific acts at the initiative of the great Coësre or his cagous.
Beggars, for example, disguise themselves and take advantage of the greed of some and the gullibility of others to better extract every last penny. Thieves, meanwhile, come in all forms: women, children, the elderly, professional gamblers…
This underclass is growing in numbers day by day. In the face of indifference from the privileged classes, its ambition to revolt is now becoming a reality.
